On 25th May, five members of the Excalibur team spent the day volunteering at The Haven Day Centre, part of the Swindon Night Shelter organisation.
Equipped with paintbrushes and rollers, the team were tasked with revamping the exterior of The Haven’s emergency accommodation building. After a few coats of paint, the graffiti was banished, and the wall now matches the building’s welcoming interior (take a look at our before and after below!)
The Haven was originally set up in 2009, and now provides day centre facilities, emergency accommodation, a community food share initiative, and much more.
Dawn Prosser, Manager of The Haven said: “Here at The Haven, our day centre is open 364 days a year, and through our affordable food club, we provide food to around 800 people each month. It’s a place where guests are provided with meals, a passage to other support agencies and access to necessities including showering and laundry. As well as these vital facilities, we also run regular activities throughout the week, including woodwork, gardening, cooking and art. Like our name, this centre really is a safe haven for our guests”.
