Never a business to do things by half, Excalibur Communications marked another successful year end with a Royal visit, purple hampers for staff and a performance by The Wurzels at their Swindon HQ.
As soon as HRH The Princess Royal had left the building, all employees were given a ‘Purple Hamper’ of themed goodies in the corporate colours to thank them for all their hard work and a record financial year. The box consisted of various purple items such as chocolate, grow your own purple carrots, a scratch card, gin miniatures and an inflatable crown. The idea being that they share it with family and friends or keep it to themselves!
Shortly after the presentation the news was delivered that they would be making Technical Director Graham Ford’s dreams come true by having the Wurzels play live later in the day. The event had been several months in the making going under the pseudonym of ‘Operation Pickle’ which had been kept a secret from Graham and all the employees until the day.
Graham had mentioned to other members of the board that his ‘secret’ favourite band was The Wurzels and he once had a dream that they performed live in the office. Always a business to strive to make dreams come true, the board made the decision to engage the band and see if they were free.
The rest is history and the Wurzels brought their special brand of West Country talent and humour to Excalibur’s Cloud event space on Tuesday 18th July 2017.
Needless to say, a lot of cider was consumed (resulting in attempts to morris dance) along with traditional West country fayre such as Cornish pasties, Wiltshire ham and Somerset brie. Post event, the band praised their hosts on twitter stating “Great fun, cheers for havin’ us!”.
