According to International Data Corporation (IDC), a third of all IT infrastructure spending during 2015 will be on cloud technologies. That increases to half by 2019.

Market intelligence specialists IDC issued a press release the other day that quantified the massive growth we are seeing in cloud technologies. According to their data, cloud infrastructure spending will increase by 21% in 2015 and again year on year until 2019. Spending on the private cloud is also expected to increase by 16% per year.

Western Europe has seen the largest growth in cloud spending, followed by Latin America, Japan and the United States. Spending in Europe alone will grow by 32% during 2015 and shows no signs of stopping. The other growth areas are a little way behind with between 23% and 21% for the other growth areas.

“The pace of adoption of cloud-based platforms will not abate for quite some time, resulting in cloud IT infrastructure expansion continuing to outpace the growth of the overall IT infrastructure market for the foreseeable future,” said Kuba Stolarski, Research Manager, Server, Virtualization and Workload Research at IDC.

“As the market evolves into deploying 3rd Platform solutions and developing next-gen software, organizations of all types and sizes will discover that traditional approaches to IT management will increasingly fall short of the simplicity, flexibility, and extensibility requirements that form the core of cloud solutions.” (Source)

Cloud is the way forward

We have been saying for a while now that the cloud is the way forward for business. The model just works. In terms of delivery, reliability and value for money there is currently no other model that comes close. In any industry that can work within the cloud, it is without question the way to go.

With technological advances, more reliable networks and higher quality cloud providers all making their presence felt, the cloud is becoming relevant to all business types. These predictions of steady growth illustrate that nicely.

Given the huge benefits our own clients have experienced since moving all or part of their infrastructure to the cloud, we’re not surprised to see a steady move towards the cloud.
